What is Vedic Astrology?
Vedic astrology, also known as ‘Jyotish’ (The Science of Light) is an ancient Indian science that studies the effects of planetary movements on our lives.
The basic principle of Vedic astrology is that all things are connected, and that our karma is determined by a predestined cosmic design. Vedic astrology is used to gain greater insight into our past, our present and our future destiny.
The main instrument in this practice is the astrological chart. It is a map of the planets in the signs of the zodiac. Charts are produced based on your exact time, date and place of birth called your ‘birth chart’ or ‘natal chart’.
The birth chart embodies your personal assets, personality, path, character and challenges. It helps you to resolve and balance life issues through self-understanding. It highlights the qualities you seek in a partner, the direction your career may take and your financial potential. The birth chart indicates how to develop strengths so you can become your best self. In Vedic astrology there are also sub-charts or divisional charts called ‘Vargas’ which can be examined deeply to explore significant areas more thoroughly. Areas include long-term relationships, marriage, career, children, success with purchasing property, financial stability or instability, health, travel, living abroad, emotional wellbeing, siblings, creativity and spiritual growth.
While the predictive ability of Vedic astrology can help one maneuver life with greater ease and grace, its ultimate gift is its ability to restore us to our own sense of self and intuitive knowing. We all possess an inner sense of knowing where the universal flow of life takes us, but at particular times, due to unforeseen changes such as stress or fear, we lose touch with it. At such times, Vedic astrology can help us reconnect to our intuition and the sense that life is unfolding exactly how it is supposed to.
