Who Gives A Crap

This company started when they learnt that 2.5 billion people (roughly 40% of the world’s population) don’t have access to a toilet. Poor sanitation causes diarrhoea related diseases that fill over half of sub-Saharan African hospital beds and kill 900 children under 5 every day. Luckily, toilets are proven to be a great solution—they provide dignity, health and an improved quality of life. And in case that wasn’t enough, it’s been shown that a dollar invested in sanitation yields eight dollars in increased economic prosperity.

As a result Who Give A Crap donate 50% of profits to WaterAid to build toilets in the developing world. They also only use 100% recycled paper in all of their toilet paper, meaning they’ve already saved thousands of trees and hundreds of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. These guys are home grown in Dandenong!

Heathmont Bushcare

Heathmont Bushcare was formed in mid 1994 as a result of an action by others to extend a car park on PTC land close to Heathmont Station. This proposed action was luckily thwarted by the recognition of local residents of the importance of this rare patch of grassy woodland. There were many residents in Heathmont who shared a love for the bush and recognised the wonderful remnants that Heathmont still had. As a result of this, Heathmont Bushcare was formed and a works calendar was developed so that they would religiously gather at sacred sites to weed and plant, on the first Sunday of each month.

If you would like to be involved, they need your help and you would be very welcome. Afterwards enjoy some delicious home cooking, a cup of tea or coffee and a sense of accomplishment.
