What is Ayurvedic Massage?

Ayurveda (meaning the science of life) medicine is the ancient natural healing form of India. Developed around 5,000 years ago, it is the sister science to Yoga. Ayurveda’s main focus is to bring a person’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing back into a state of equilibrium – through herbal medicines, diet, yoga and massage.

The type of massage offered is Abhyanga. It is a luxurious full body massage including the head, hair and face, using warm natural herbal oils. The action of the practitioners’ hands moves energy around the body, targeting marma points (vital points) within the body. A Marma point is defined as an anatomical site where flesh, veins, arteries, tendons, bones and joints meet up. There are 107 Marma points throughout the body. Each point has it’s own intelligence and consciousness, which co-ordinate with the mind and body.

This treatment deeply nourishes the nervous system, increases blood and lymphatic circulation, aids muscle tone and removes toxins from the body. It is ideal for tired, stiff, aching bodies, or those suffering from nervous tension issues.
