Why I love what I do

As much as I can, my aim is to bring good feelings to others.

Taking the time to tune into the breath and touch base with your inner being is really what it’s all about. You can do this through any kind of activity but I feel the tools that yoga provides are simple and accessible to everyone.

I enjoy informing others that there is much more to a class of yoga than the physical components. We start at this point and gradually work with more subtle techniques to make long lasting changes within our mind. I like to think of it as a healing and growing process where we shed the old and take on a new form – just like a Phoenix! sanjay lavoipierre

Biography

Sanjay Lavoipierre has always been a teacher, starting at the young age of 14, teaching music. He began exploring consciousness development and the healing arts at the age of 15, and on completing his Environmental Engineering degree, undertook yoga studies in the traditional Hatha style.

Sanjay began teaching yoga full time in 2003 and has taught in many places around the world including Australia, Canada, UK, Nepal and India. He offers workshops and retreats throughout the year to further his students’ knowledge and provide the opportunity to find inner peace and happiness.

He feels privileged to name among his many teachers such gifted and generous beings as the late Sri K. Patthabhi Jois (Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute), Paul Dallaghan (Centered Yoga), and his current teachers His Holiness the Dalai Lama (Namgyal Monastery), Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche (read more), Ani Karin (Kopan Monastery) and Khentrul Rinpoche (read more).

Sanjay’s asana – physical posture – practice is integrated with daily pranayama – yogic breathing exercises, as well as tantric meditation and philosophical study in Mahayana Tibetan Buddhism and yoga’s sister science of Ayurveda. He is currently engaged in the five year, 12 subject FPMT Basic Program (at Kopan Monastery), as well as a four year Lam-Rim study and preliminary practices commitment under the guidance of Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

The name Sanjay means ‘Victorious One.’ In 2011, through initiation into the Mahayana Tibetan Buddhist tradition Sanjay was given the name Tenzin Nyingtop (by Geshe Thubten Sherab), from which Tenzin is a direct link to the Dalai Lama. Nyingtop is pronounced with a silent ‘p’. This name translates to ‘Holder of the Teachings of the Courageous Heart.’ Through the inspiration of these names Sanjay continues to develop inner wisdom and compassion, working for the benefit of all sentient beings.
